Then, as now: Taste variety and reliability

1922

Local Innsbruck doctor Dr. A. Schär and Bolzano-based entrepreneur Untertrifaller market healthy food products for infants for the first time under the brand name Dr. Schär. The main focus of the product range remains the same until 1972.
1982

For the first time, the Dr. Schär company launches gluten-free dietary products onto the market under the management of the Merano-based businessman Ulrich Ladurner. This year also marks the start of close cooperation with doctors and coeliac organisations. The range is expanded to become a complete gluten-free product line.
1985

The Dr. Schär company aims to become the leader in the market segment for gluten-free products in Italy. Product innovations, improvements in quality, new technologies and production halls prepare the company for the 1990s.
1990

Dr. Schär becomes the market leader in Italy. The company prepares to enter the European market. Subsidiaries are founded in Spain and France. Markets are built up in Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
1996

Following the establishment of the company in Europe, the aim is now to become the leader in these markets. Product innovations and improvements in quality optimise the Schär range. Production and operational areas are expanded.
1998

The quality offensive is launched. Intensive research and development results in a new taste experience in all product areas. Sensory evaluation and safety are of the utmost importance. The result wins over consumers throughout Europe.
2002

Cooperation starts with the company Nutrition point; the ds Dietary Specials brand becomes the market leader in food retail in England. Innovative product solutions score points, especially in the frozen food/convenience market. Now the important markets of Europe are waiting for the implementation of the tried-and-tested strategy
2003

Dr. Schär opens its research lab in the AREA Science Park in Trieste, one of the leading research centres in Europe. More than 1,000 scientists work there to develop innovative solutions in the most wide ranging areas, such as biotechnology. This is a very important step for Dr. Schär to ensure that the company is aware of new ideas, and that it can use new methods in research to adapt product quality and product benefits to the changing market requirements of the coming years.
2004

Market expansion in Eastern Europe: Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic
2006

Dr. Schär expands its production capacity through the purchase and construction of two production facilities in Germany. The plant in Dreihausen is an ideal complement to the existing production facility in South Tyrol and will be responsible for implementing the innovative product ideas in our range of biscuits. In the same year, EUR 18 million is invested in a completely new, innovative production facility with state-of-the-art equipment in Apolda, which will focus on bread. Schär products can now be purchased throughout Europe.
2007

US headquarters open in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Schar USA now provides high quality gluten free products to many of the US major chains.
