Magnificent Mothers’ Day Brunch – Gluten-Free of course!

When we think of something special for our mothers on Mothers’ Day, why not think of starting the day out right with a delicious gluten-free brunch or breakfast.

Did you know that recent studies have highlighted the importance of breakfast not just for children who are studying hard in school but also for everyone? A good breakfast has been linked with successful weight loss programs as well as heart healthy eating. A gluten-free diet breakfast can be tasty, easy and fit into a healthy lifestyle. Gluten-free French toast made with our multigrain bread is a wonderful way to start Mom’s special day. To reduce the cholesterol use just egg whites for the French toast. Add a dash of cinnamon and vanilla for a delectable treat no one will know is also low fat and a source of fiber. Add a low fat yogurt and fresh fruit parfait topped with a shortbread cookie and you have created a meal Mom will never forget.

Mothers’ day breakfast does not have to be a culinary feat to be special. Have the kids make Mom a breakfast pizza – it is easy fun and so delicious it may become a weekend favorite!

To celebrate Mothers’ day and keep mom and the rest of the family healthy all year long let’s focus on two key tips for a healthy mom all year long.

The key to a healthy diet is balance and variety. It should include food rich in whole grains, good sources of fiber, and be low in fat. Use a multigrain bread or pasta instead of the usual gluten-free item. This small change can make big changes over the year. The multigrain products are higher in fiber, B complex vitamins and mineral. All the things you need to be healthy.

Good sources of calcium should also be included daily. Calcium rich foods have been linked to strong bones, heart health, and even weight loss. Low fat yogurt, low fat or no fat milk can be enjoyed with an afternoon cookie or piece of fruit. There are also several cheeses made with skim milk that are excellent sources of calcium without the worries of fat and cholesterol. There is even delicious part skim milk mozzarella paired with fresh tomatoes and basil make a healthy delicious lunch or an irresistible dish for the weekend bar-b-que.
