June is all about celebrations!

When we think of June we think of Dad for father’s day, graduations, June weddings, and the beginning of summer vacation – in other words celebrations!!! And when we think of celebrations – we think of family gatherings and of course food! There is no reason to call off the festivities if you follow a gluten free diet. Let’s explore some of the wonderful possibilities.
What ever the celebration many favorite main dishes are naturally gluten free: beef tenderloin, grilled chicken, Bar- B- Q ribs, grilled fish or even the classic hamburger can all be deliciously gluten free. Many of the condiments you would use to prepare dad his favorite main dish are also gluten free. Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, pickles are all safe. Sauces and marinades like Bar-B-Q sauce, Worcestershire and steak sauce may be gluten free – to be safe read the list of ingredients carefully. Asian marinades often contain soy sauce which is not gluten free. A safe and tasty solution is to create your own sauces. You can try mango salsa on grilled salmon is divine or a parsley sauce with capers over a roast or grilled tenderloin will have everyone coming back for seconds.
But it is not just about the main course but what about appetizers and desserts. Shrimp cocktails, crudités, or even mussels marinara are all fabulous seasonal appetizers that are naturally gluten free. Fresh steamed asparagus, mixed spring greens or even potato salad are wonderful gluten free sides.
Everyone looks forward to dessert – so what are our possibilities? Fruit sorbet with fresh berries, tiramisu or gluten free brownies with ice cream.
No matter what the menu – remember the most important thing to remember is that the people and event that you are celebrating. The food (although deliciously gluten free) is secondary.
